Back in the 1980's, we opened our doors with the mission of providing the best equipment, clothing, and info for all outdoor enthusiasts living in or visiting the Arkansas River Valley, Salida, & Buena Vista.

While we've maintained that "small town" feel and friendliness, our selection, enthusiasm, and experience are second to none! Over the years we've also established our reputation as the premeir local choice for active lifestyle clothing as well as the equipment needs of the hardcore outdoor enthusiast and the first time weekend recreationist.

Nate Porter-Store Manager Nate's an avid telemark skier, road & mountain biker, and backcountry enthusiast. He's a Colorado native and has been working in outdoor and bike shops since the mid 1980's

Headwaters Staff The Staff here at Headwaters loves to get outside! Our staff loves to play in the water, on land, and up in the mountains, too. Everything from Kayaking, rafting, hiking, trail running, to skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, climbing and mountaineering-- and everyting in between! Our staff is knowledgeable about the Arkansas River Valley and can provide lots of info if you are looking for fun ideas on your next visit!

Ray, Penny, & Sage Kitson-Owners Ray & Penny founded Headwaters Outdoor Equipment when they couldn't find locally the gear and clothing that they wanted. Since the beginning we've carried only the gear that we personally believe in and use.
